How the math works
Every number StemTally shows comes from the formulas below. Defaults are industry starting points — change any of them in Settings or per variety.
Buy list
needed = ⌈ Σ(qty × stems per design) × (1 + buffer) ⌉
prebook = needed × 72%, rounded up to whole bunches
open market = needed − prebook (never below 0)
Example: 950 stems needed × 72% = 684 → 28 bunches of 25 = 700 prebook, 250 open market.
Prebook book with your wholesaler by the prebook-by date (default 3 weeks before) Open market bought the week of.
Cost and margin
Design cost = stems × your invoice price (or the reference price until you enter one) + hard goods. COGS % = cost ÷ retail price. Above your target (default 25%), the design turns red and StemTally suggests the lowest price ending in .99 at or above cost ÷ target.
Wire & order-gatherer check
net = amount × fill % − fees − recipe cost − delivery − labor
Accept net ≥ your minimum (default $10) Counter 0 ≤ net < minimum Decline net < 0
Presets (73% + $2.00 for wire services, 70% + $0 for order gatherers) are estimates — enter your own contract terms.
Holiday calendar
Valentine's Day is Feb 14 (Sun Feb 14, 2027); Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May (Sun May 9, 2027); Christmas is Dec 25. Production days default to the 3 days before plus the day (Thu Feb 11, Fri Feb 12, Sat Feb 13, Sun Feb 14); prebook by Sun Jan 24.
Recap
New buffer = ½ × old buffer + ½ × (waste you recorded, kept between 3% and 20%). Throw out 4% of your roses with a 10% buffer → next year 7%.
